Are you a good judge of character?
“Are you a good judge of character?” Its both yes and no. Yes, because judging character is a natural part of forming connections and relationships. It’s an instinctive process where we evaluate if we resonate with someone on a certain level. And no, because the concept of being a ‘good’ judge of character is subjective and varies greatly depending on individual experiences and perspectives. Each person’s judgment is influenced by their own values, beliefs, and life experiences.
Now that’s out of the way, let’s add a dash of science to this. When we’re talking about judging character, our brains are superstars. They’re wired to read faces, body language, and even the tone of voice. This is all part of our social instincts – it’s a bit like having your own people-scanner. Science says this ability is rooted in our survival instincts. Long ago, it helped us figure out friend from foe. Fast forward to today, and it’s all about who we click with. Think of it as our brain doing a quick scan, like, “Hey, do I get good vibes from this person?” But, here’s the cool part: our brain’s judgment skills get sharper with experience. The more we meet people, the better our brain gets at this friend-or-not game. So, everyone’s got the skill, but how sharp it is, well, that’s up to how much we’ve practiced.
