13 Reasons Why

There are lot of talks about this on the Internet and I understand why, If you have watched it you would wanna do something about it too. So, before I start, I want to let you know this is not a review of that TV series but just a person who wants to discuss/share about the message that was delivered to the audience. Some might think, the show was/is too depressing and I agree, this is not for everyone. I urge the ones who have watched this to create awareness and share the message to the world and reach out to the ones in need. Here it goes.

Plot/Summary:

A girl named Hannah Baker joins a high school as a new student due to relocation. She finds it difficult to settle in and eventually due to the happenings in her life – she commits suicide. The story starts with Clay Jensen, (who was in love with Hannah Baker) receives 13 tapes which contains the voice of Hannah Baker narrating that each of the tapes points and explains who was responsible for her suicide.

My views/thoughts:

The show had lots to say about what happens in high school when a new student is among a bunch of high school students (maybe not always, not judging or accusing anyone here!). It was so depressing to watch what that girl goes through, what the bullies put her through, how she couldn’t find one genuine friend and also could not see the one who was genuine.  Ergo, she thought she couldn’t make any friends, she thought she’s alone, she couldn’t see the ones who cared for her genuinely even though they were right in front of her the whole time, which lead her to doubt her own existence.

Yes, I’m mad at Hannah Baker more than I should be on others of that show. Because she gave up a little too easy. She could have fought, she had access to the land in just couple of strokes away yet she chose to drown. Why? Because no one made her feel she’s welcome, no one listened to her, no one wanted to hear her when she tried to reach out. Not even the one who loved her could see what she was going through and that’s sad. Feeling altogether, without a remorse thought of trying harder,  made her jump into the conclusion that she has no purpose on this earth.

Hear me out, the ones who need help:

Don’t ever think you are alone in this universe. Don’t ever feel you are nobody. You are never alone on this Earth. Don’t think failure is the end of the world. Failure just means, one step closer towards success. To refer Thomas Edison:

“Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.

Genius is one percent inspiration and ninety-nine percent perspiration.

Results? Why, man, I have gotten lots of results! If I find 10,000 ways something won’t work, I haven’t failed. I am not discouraged, because every wrong attempt discarded is often a step forward….”

So just going… as I have already quoted in one of my previous post, “If you are going through hell, keep going”

Awareness:

According to the statistics taken by WHO, close to 800 000 people take their own life and there are many more people who attempt suicide every year. That is the worse tragedy that could happen to this world leaving the families of those in distress.

It is a serious issue that concerns each of every individual on this planet. It is preventable if people coordinate and collaborate across multiple sectors and create awareness. There are  so many organization that reaches out and helps people who are in need.
