If this new image from Webb’s mid-infrared instrument (MIRI) looks dark & moody, that's because things look different in this light than what you may be used to. These are the "bones” of galaxy IC 5332, usually hidden by dust

The close-up on the left reveals surface features such as Huygens Crater, dark volcanic Syrtis Major, and Hellas Basin, while the “heat map" on the right shows light being given off by Mars as it loses heat.

Webb’s latest image is the clearest look at Neptune's rings in 30+ years, and our first time seeing them in infrared light.

That’s no star. It’s Neptune’s large, unusual moon, Triton! Because Triton is covered in frozen, condensed nitrogen, it reflects 70% of the sunlight that hits it — making it appear very bright to Webb. 6 of Neptune’s other moons (labeled) are also seen here.

You might remember galaxy cluster SMACS 0723 as the very first Webb image unveiled! Here it is as seen by Webb in infrared light plus Chandra in X-ray light

Take a moment to stare into thousands of never-before-seen young stars in the Tarantula Nebula. It reveals details of the structure and composition of the nebula, as well as background galaxies

These cosmic “tree rings” tell a story written by the stars. Every 8 years, these 2 stars are brought together by their orbits, creating streams of gas that can then form a new ring of dust. Webb reveals 15 of the 17 rings here for the first time
