Elon Musk’s plan on sending people to Mars.

Elon Musk – the man who can bring a SciFi fantasy come true, atleast that’s  how I would like to picture him (I know many would agree with me); the CEO and the co-founder of SpaceX. He has great visions about the future one of which is colonizing Mars by 2024 with two ships reaching by 2022 filled with cargo  and he plans to do it effective and safe.

He recently provided an update to his 2016 presentation regarding his long term technical challenges that need to be solved to support the creation of a permanent, self-sustaining human presence on Mars.

In his recent speaking at the International Astronautical Congress in Adelaide, Australia, Musk said that SpaceX will start stockpiling the resources of the vehicles  – Falcon 9, Falcon Heavy and the Dragon spacecraft – and focus all of its resources into developing their next huge vehicle in history: the Interplanetary Transport System which he calls as BFR – Big Fucking Rocket. (Fits, I would say) and he plans to start building the spacecraft and new rocket next year(2018).

He stated, “All our resources will turn toward building BFR and we believe we can do this with the revenue we receive from launching satellites and servicing the space station.”

The new improved reusable beast will use 31 Raptor engines burning densified, or supercooled, liquid methane and liquid oxygen to lift 150 tons or 300,000 pounds to low-Earth orbit roughly equivalent to NASA’s Saturn moon rocket.

Musk also proposed the idea of using this spacecraft for launching satellites, take cargo to the international space station, do a lunar missions to set up a moon base and the most fascinating idea was his plan to use the BFR as a transportation here on Earth. For example, a flight from New York to Shanghai would only take about half an hour – with just the cost per seat of a commercial airliner, economy class!

His Idea of using BFR for travel on Earth

Although his goals and timeline seem little out of science fiction and there have been times where SpaceX has blown its deadlines, their results, outcomes never cease to amaze me and I can assure there are quite a lot of people who is with me on this one.

So let’s keep supporting our “SciFi Man” on this!
